These are the Three Challenges of Council. What they point to is: Council as a way of being, a spiritual practice, a way of life.

In Council III, we will explore walking-the-listening as well as walking-the-talk.  Empathy and relationship as paths to a more committed life. Thinking like a circle.  Letting the group soul speak through us.  This program is for council practitioners, those already familiar with the forms and uses of council, and who wish to go deeper.

We will explore techniques for aligning our hearts and minds, by moving the focus from authentic self expression to discovering the soul of the circle.

We will practice becoming a hollow bone, learning how to get out of our own way and giving voice to other beings and entities: to speak for the Third (the Relationship itself), for other species (as in the Council of All Beings), for a departed Loved One, for the Soul of the Group, for an Unborn Child, a Forgotten Dream, Mother Earth...

We will explore the ceremony of council, with attention to the subtle gateways to understanding, council as threshold into the numinous, as a way of creating sacred space with others.  We will sensitize ourselves to voices beyond our own, entering into a field out beyond right and wrong, and actively responding to signs in the natural world.

The root of the word therapy comes from the Greek word for intentional healing community.  In our time together, we will explore the place where resistance and flow, shadow and light, self and other merge to create common ground where the seeds of healing and wholeness can sprout and take root.
